I __1__ the idea of taking the class because, after all, who doesn't want to __2__ a few dollars? More than that, I'd always wanted to learn chess. He was an international grandmaster, which __5__ I would be learning from one of the game's __6__. I could hardly wait to __7__ him.

Maurice Ashley was kind and smart, a former graduate returning to teach, and this __8__ was no game for him; he meant business. 【

.D 此空格後是對上文“an international grandmaster”的進一步解釋說明,mean (that) ...

.C “what we would learn in class”和“our future professions”形成對比,把課堂所學應用於未來的職業中。apply sth. to sth.

.A 空格後的“as a journalist”點明作者的社會角*(role)。
