問題詳情:
①The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference was held in Paris, France, aiming to yield a new international agreement to reduce greenhouse gases. From 30 November to 12 December 2015, officials from across the world met there to seek a solution for serious climate change.
②Since the 1997 international agreement to fight global warming, climate change has worsened and speeded up—beyond even the worst expectations of the 1997 talks in Kyoto, Japan. New ship passages have opened through the once frozen summer sea ice of the Arctic. In Greenland and Antarctica, ice sheets have lost trillions of tons of ice. Mountain glaciers in Europe, South America, Asia and Africa are shrinking faster than before.
③And not just the frozen parts of the world have felt the heat in the last 18 years: The world’s oceans have risen by over 4cm. Scientists expects that during the 21st century the global surface temperature is likely to rise further 0.3 to 1.7℃. Droughts and wildfires have become more frequent worldwide. Animals and plants are now in trouble because of the changing climate. These include the polar bears, butterflies, flogs and entire stands of North American pine forests.
④Even the gloomiest climate model from the 1990s didn’t forecast this bad results. “The latest science is telling us we are in more trouble than we thought,” said Janos Pasztor, climate advertiser to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
⑤Some climate change can be caused by natural factors such as variations in solar radiation, volcanoes, land drift and ocean drift. However, most of scientific and public opinions have come to the conclusion that the climate is changing mainly because of the accumulation of greenhouse gases (especially CO2) in the atmosphere due to human activities.
⑥…
⑦World leaders have spent 18 years figuring out this truth. And it is clear that the future of the earth belongs to a low-carbon economy and that tomorrow’s winners will be those who invest in clean energy solutions.
