The Sweetest Thing
At ten, I was crazy about candies. Whenever in a 21 with my mom, I would run my
fingers through my favorite candies.
Once there, I noticed a man pushing buttons(按鍵)on the ATM machine. He seemed to be late for something, 22 waiting for his cash to appear. The machine made a noise, and he seized a pile of 23 and raced out. Feeling curious, I 24 to the ATM, where I pressed buttons. Amazingly, I saw a $20 bill! 25 I wanted to believe my magic worked, I knew that man must have left it behind.
I held the money, feeling 26 than before. I thought about keeping it secretly, but it wasn’t 27 . So my mom and I rushed out, found the owner, 28 him and asked whether it was his. “Let me 29 . Twenty, forty…I’m 30 a $20 bill.” “Here you go,” I said as if I was a(n) 31 who solved a mystery. “Thank you,” he said, bending down and 32 my hand. Before saying goodbye, he asked for my name and 33 . “I want to send you a thank-you card.”
On my way home, my 34 was racing. What could I have done with twenty dollars? A puppy? Candy?... But now 35 of that would happen. Yet I knew I had done the right thing.
A few weeks later, I got packages of candy. “Dear Felice, Thank you for 36 my $20. I appreciate your 37 . Tom.” The candy tasted sweet, each 38 reminding me that what I had done mattered. Though my honesty wouldn’t always be rewarded with candy, it would make a(an) 39 to me. And that was the 40 part of all.
