   Most people like the tomato. They love its beautiful look and great taste.

   Tomatoes are from Peru. About 500 years ago, the Spanish(西班牙人) went to south America and brought back the tomatoes to Europe. At that time, tomatoes were yellow. Because they looked like apples, the French(法國人) called them “love apples”, while the English called them “the apple of gold”.

   The first people in Europe to eat tomatoes were Italians(義大利人). In some countries like England and Mexico(墨西哥), however, people didn’t eat tomatoes. They thought tomatoes were poisonous（有毒的）. If they ate them, they would die. But they grew tomatoes in their gardens to enjoy their beautiful look.

  Later, people took tomatoes to other countries. Today tomatoes are popular in the whole world.
