Having lived there for nearly 40 years, she called Zhenjiang her Chinese hometown and Chinese her first language. Pearl S. Buck began to write in the 1920s and wrote many novels. The Good Earth, which was published in 1931, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1932 and the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1938.

Pearl S. Buck became famous because she was the only woman to win both these prizes.
