Nowadays, most students attach less importance to the spelling of words in the process of English study. This phenomenon not only greatly influences students’ grades in exams but also brings about worries among teachers.

There are some reasons contributing to this phenomenon. First of all, exam-oriented education causes the students to pay less attention to spelling. Heavy homework every day occupies too much time and energy, as a result of which, students have to concentrate on writing speed instead of quality. Besides, some students failed to form the good habit of writing at a young age.

Since spelling plays an important part in English study, effective actions must be taken to improve it. On the one hand, more grades about spelling should be added to the exam, which would result in students focusing more on spelling. On the other hand, it’s necessary for both teachers and parents to emphasize the importance of spelling. Lastly, as a student, I think, it’s practising spelling every day that is our duty.
